Stubbs is the honorary mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska but he doesn’t do anything very official. He is more of a historical attraction for the people of the town because the town itself is a historical district made up of around 800. The townspeople adore Stubbs though, and he was adopted by Nagley’s General Store, so that is where his honor’s mayoral office resides.

The people of this small town were forced to fear for the life of their mayor when, in August of 2013, Stubbs was attacked by a dog. This left him with 12 stitches, a punctured lung, and fractured sternum. Poor little mayor. He was in a veterinarian hospital for for nine days before he was allowed to come back home and recuperate.

Believe it or not, this is not the first brush with danger that Stubbs has had. He has been shot with BB guns by local teenagers (just awful), he fell into a restaurant deep fryer, which was off and cool at the time, and he even hitched a ride to the outskirts of the town on a garbage truck. It is safe to say that Stubbs has had his share of adventures within the town of Talkeetna.

Fun Fact: Stubbs is not the first animal to be named mayor of a town. Clay Henry, the beer-drinking goat, was named mayor of Lajitas, Texas until his death in 1992. He was succeeded by two other goats, Clay Henry II and Clay Henry III. In Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, a border collie named Lucy Lou defeated 10 dogs, a cat, a possum, a jackass, and even one human to be the mayor.
